Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a technique taught to help release blocked energy and so reduce the effects of stress and anxiety.

How can EFT help?

Some small research studies have indicated that EFT may improve psychological distress with conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder, phobias and anxiety. When dealing with cancer you can feel a loss of control and become very stressed at times; EFT can help give you back a sense of control over what is happening.

Many people do not realise the effect that stress has on the nervous system, especially if the individual is not able to switch off. EFT can help with inducing the "relaxation response" which enables the body's natural ability to heal itself to come to the fore.

Clients also say that EFT can reduce the impact of negative emotions such as fear, anxiety and anger as well as relieving physical symptoms such as pain, restricted movement, nausea and hot flushes.

How is EFT taught?

EFT is taught in one-to-one sessions (a minimum of 3 sessions) with each session lasting up to 50 minutes. After the first 3 sessions we can then talk about when to have possible further sessions. You will be encouraged to practice EFT in between sessions.

EFT is an easy to learn self-tool which gives you the opportunity to take part in your own recovery. It involves gently tapping with the fingers on specific acupuncture points whilst focusing your attention on the emotion or issue you wish to address. This clears blockages and allows the energy to flow normally again, which can rebalance the mind and body and make you feel better about yourself and your situation.
