We have to raise over £100,000 each year in order to provide free complementary therapies, counselling, group sessions and other therapeutic activities for our Members - cancer patients and their carers.
We work hard to maintain a wide range of income sources so that we are not overly dependent on any one group of funders.
- Our Members - pay an annual membership fee of £15 and our services to them are otherwise provided free of charge.
- The local community - we receive support from local companies, churches, schools, pubs & clubs, a variety of other organisations and a host of private individuals. This has the added advantages of making local people aware of the services we offer.
- Charitable Trusts & Foundations - we receive a number of repeat donations and one-off grants.
- Individuals - donations are provided by Members and by the general public. We also receive occasional legacies.
- Events - our Volunteers organise a range of shows, fairs, garden parties, sponsored activities and “fun” evenings
- Other - we maximise Gift Aid recoveries, hold street collections and raffles and generally seize every opportunity to fundraise.
- Costs we don’t incur - some very significant 'potential' expenditure is avoided. Tesco provide us with excellent rent-free accommodation in Purley. Our salary bill is kept to a minimum by employing only three staff, a full-time Centre Manager, a part-time volunteer co-ordinator and a part-time fundraiser. The Centre is further assisted by the fantastic input from a large team of Volunteers, who provide support, administration and professional services free of charge.
- Public Authorities - We receive no regular funding from Government, the local Council or Health Authorities.
All donations are gratefully received and no donation is too small to matter. Please send a cheque made payable to “SECHC” to The South East Cancer Help Centre, 2 Purley Road (Tesco Development), Purley CR8 2HA.
