Drama

The Drama Group meets weekly on Wednesday afternoons with a break in the school holidays.  It offers participants a range of activities designed to develop their imagination, creativity and drama skills.

The emphasis is on enjoyment and fun and a session might include exercises and games to develop confidence and concentration, role-play and improvisation.  Group work provides an opportunity for participants to get to know and trust one another in an unthreatening environment.  Theatre History and plays are also explored and, periodically, the Group develop their ideas into a workshop performance which is shown to members and friends at the Centre.  Such performances are developed from improvisations (i.e. created and rehearsed by the Group) and are unscripted, offering a challenging and exciting experience, much appreciated by actors and audience.

Some responses from patients who attend the Drama Group are given below:

“We have fun joining together in games and improvisations and there is just no time to think of problems or worries”

“Drama enables me to put all my troubles aside for a while as I can step outside myself and become somebody else for a time”.

“The ‘escape’ that Drama allows helps enormously with whatever problems or disasters need to be faced ….. Drama teaches me about life”
