Absolutely Fabulous Day
Ab Fab and Terry and June's June Whitfield, our
Vice-President, opened our new, enlarged premises on Saturday July
21. First she released hundreds of balloons in the new corporate
colours of lilac, yellow and green and carrying the message "South
East Cancer Help Centre 020 8668 0974 flying with Tesco and
Costains". A brisk breeze lifted them straight up and away
towards Croydon.

A magnificent champagne reception and a tasty
finger buffet followed - thanks to Costains, who also built the
new premises. Guests, including our other Vice President, Malcolm
Wicks MP, fellow local MP Richard Ottoway, prominent donors, medical
and healthcare professionals, SECHC
volunteers, staff and members then listened to welcome speeches,
led by June Whitfield and Chairman Eve Lister. As well as thanking
all those who had helped bring this project to such a successful
conclusion, particular gratitude was expressed to Tesco Extra for
providing our beautiful new Centre. Ashley Austen, manager of their
greatly enlarged superstore, then handed Eve a cheque for £500
for the Centre, saying how glad they were to be able to continue
to support us.

On entering the new premises, decorated in the
new colours, visitors were given a folder with details of what takes
place at SECHC. This too was
in our new colours - the new 'corporate image' was designed for
us free by local marketing and graphics expert, Graeme Collins,
formerly of Saatchi & Saatchi.
Katerina Clark of Radio Mayday summed up for
everyone, when she said "The minute I steeped into the building
I felt the relaxed and caring atmosphere. There was an overwhelming
sense of love and support for everyone. The Centre is a very, very
special organisation."
